Things to Do at Mall of America

Much of Mall of America costs nothing: the theme-park floor, the large brick models at the LEGO Store, events in the Huntington Bank Rotunda, the stadium plaque and the red seat, and the walk around each 1.2-mile level. Seven attractions sell tickets: the ride wristband, SEA LIFE, Crayola Experience, an escape room, an illusions museum and two mini-golf courses.

Walk the park floor and watch the Log Chute

Nickelodeon Universe covers seven acres under the central skylights, and its floor and walkways are free. The Log Chute, a log flume from the 1992 opening, splashes down in view of the paths. It closes for maintenance for a few weeks each autumn.

The LEGO models and the Rotunda

The LEGO Store displays large brick models that anyone can look at. The Huntington Bank Rotunda hosts events and shows. Both appear in Jingle All the Way; the films page lists the other productions shot here.

Find the plaque and the red seat

The mall was built on the site of Metropolitan Stadium. A home-plate plaque is set into the floor of Nickelodeon Universe. A single red stadium seat, high on a wall, marks where Harmon Killebrew’s 520-foot home run of 3 June 1967 landed.

Walk a lap, or three

Each level is about 1.2 miles round, and the three shopping levels make roughly a 5K. The doors open three hours before the shops. The mall walking page has the times.

Outside the mall

Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge is the nearest green space, with a visitor centre at 3815 American Boulevard East, Bloomington. Downtown Minneapolis is on the Blue Line; Saint Paul is reached with a change to the Green Line. The Chapel of Love closed on 28 August 2022, so it is no longer a place to visit.

The seven ticketed attractions

SEA LIFE and the golf courses take about an hour each, Crayola Experience three to four hours and the ride wristband up to a day. The Museum of Illusions ticket is non-refundable; the other six have free cancellation up to 24 hours before. The attraction-by-age page sorts them by visitor.

Guest-service desks rent strollers and wheelchairs, and rental lockers are on several levels, which helps before an attraction that bans large bags.
